PostSubject: Art Inspired by Obama   Mon Jan 19, 2009 1:10 am

In honor of the upcoming inauguration of our first African American President Barack Obama, I'm compiling a thread of great works of art inspired by Obama. If you find any I haven't feel free to add.

Sands of the time
In this image provided by artist Jorge Rodriguez-Gerada, a sand painting portraying the likeness of Democrat presidential candidate Barack Obama is seen in Barcelona, Spain. The artistic project by Cuban-American Jorge Rodrigue-Gerada is about 10,000 square meters and it "embodies the immense sense of hope felt by Barack Obama's supporters," says the artists' website.

Hometown pride
Commuters walk past a Barack Obama mural in the 2500 block of North Halsted Street in Chicago.

Bernard Gauckler, who is visiting from Paris, France, takes a look at a new stenciled Obama mural on the wall of the Grand Avenue underpass at Lake Shore Drive in Chicago.

The HOPE sculpture, designed by Robert Indiana, stands outside the Pepsi Center on the third day of the Democratic National convention in Denver, Colo.

Better with butter
Norma Lyon touches up her butter sculpture of Democratic Presidential hopeful Senator Barack Obama following a town hall style meeting by the candidate at South Tama Middle School in Toledo, Iowa. The bust was made from 23 pounds of butter. The stop was part of today's scheduled five-city campaign swing in the central part of the state in an attempt to gather last-minute support before the January 3 caucus.

Los Angeles-based artist Shepard Fairey created the now-ubiquitous graphic of Barack Obama, who wrote to him, "Your images have a profound effect on people."

It features the imagery of 8-bit inspired artist Jude Buffum paired up with custom music making Computer Jay. The 2'×2' canvas of a pixelated Obama logo with the words "New Game" will hang above a boombox with this "Yes We Can" track playing on a continuous loop
